Curling is just a stone's throw away.
This project was a team effort with two fellow graphic designers, to develop a branding system to promote and educate the sport of curling at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
We developed a mascot, merchandise line, website, and social media feed, using a play on traditional sport colors to draw on a younger audience who may not know much about curling.
My role was to develop the mascot, color palette, and merchandise design.

Above, is the full set of deliverables and images of our mascot, Skip, created for our project using our mascot and an illustration of the equipment used in curling. We stuck to a split complementary color scheme using this year's Pantone color, Very Peri.
Each part of our system incorporates specific curling-based language or imagery, to get people interested, have an understanding once informed, and to be fun and easy to understand. Our tagline and slogan is an example of this as it's a pun based on curling, but is understandable without background knowledge.
Our mascot, Skip, is named for the Skipper position in curling that serves as a team's leader. He is also a Flemish Giant Rabbit, chosen for the historic painting by Flemish painter Albrecht Durer, who represented one of the earliest forms of curling.
Beyond the specific curling imagery, our system seamlessly moves from beginning with the merchandise, to our audience finding our brand online through the merchandise, to keeping up with social media. This ultimately helps people stay up to date with team standings, as well as keeping up with the sport outside of the Olympic cycle.
